Striving for Excellence in Taqwa & Character

Yesterday, I left work to go on a long break. It felt emotional. I didn’t cry but felt an ache in my heart. I had made good friends, got reacquainted with old ones and learned so much. Did I mention that I did work hard! On the way home I was thinking about what Sheikh Muhammad Alshareef had said on Monday’s webinar and I started wondering. We don’t need to be motivated to do the things we love so why do we struggle with the Quran and the Salah? Don’t we truly love the word of Allah, the Quran? Can’t we see that Salah is a chance to have a one-to-one with Allah? Is to so hard to say “We hear and we obey” when we are told in the Quran {Whoever of you witnesses the month (of Ramdan), let him fast} 2:185

If Ramadan’s like an annual conference then it brings together the “big” names of the callers to Akhirah; the Quran, night prayers, charity and remembrance of Allah. Actually all of these aren’t unique to Ramadan, not even fasting. But Ramadan gets us reacquainted.  For some of us Ramadan is the wonderful opportunity when we take the brave step to start practising Islam and then it is like making new friends. Let’s look after these friends during this blessed month and make the intention that we won’t lose touch after Ramadan.

In the spirit of Support and Friendship, I would like to share the following with you.

1. Sheikh Tawfique has written an excellent piece of Advice: 5 ways to make this Ramadan extraordinary.  Do spend a few minutes to read it.

2. Muslim bloggers are coming together to show how unity is beautiful and beneficial through Mission: Ramadan. If you are a blogger, I hope you booked your day!

3. What do sisters want to get out of this blessed month? Any obstacles preventing us from maximising the rewards? Any success stories? Contact me with your ideas or add them as a comment here. I do appreciate your input in making this blog useful to you.

Finally, be unlimited. Spread the good that you’ve learned however insignificant you may think it is.

{Surely, Allah shall not harm so much as the weight of an atom, and if it is a good deed He will double it, and give from His Own a great wage} The Quran 4:40
